The mission of Health Services is to support students in reaching their full academic potential by promoting their physical, emotional, and social well-being through evidence-based practice.

Communication between families and school nurses is essential. Please keep the school nurse informed of significant changes in your child's health, mobility, medications, or medical needs. This information helps us plan appropriately for the school day, physical education, field trips, fire drills, evacuations, and other school activities. 

• Injuries requiring crutches, slings, casts, or other medical equipment
• Recent head injury or suspected concussion
• Eye injuries
• Asthma or significant changes in asthma management
• Allergies, especially those requiring emergency medication
• Injuries requiring stitches or other medical treatment
• Significant illness or hospitalization
• Surgery or other procedures that may affect school participation
• New diagnoses or significant changes in health status

The school nurse serves as the health professional for the school community and provides the following services:

• Illness and injury assessments and interventions.
• Identification, assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation of student's health concerns.
• Works with families to develop an Individualized Nursing Care Plan for students with disabilities/ or health concerns.
• Maintains computerized, confidential health records.
• Manages care of children with special health needs.
• Medication administration.
• Ensures compliance with the state's mandated immunization policy for entry to school.
• Provides Data to Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
• Conducts state mandated screenings:
  • Vision Screenings grades PreK-5 & 7
  • Hearing grades K-3 & 7
  • Postural screening grades 5-8
  • Height and weight & BMI screenings grades 1, 4 & 7
• Establishes guidelines for school district health policies, goals and objectives.
