Dear Carlisle Families

I hope you all weathered the recent snowstorms safely and enjoyed our first snow day of the year.  A foot or two of snow and brisk temperatures are certainly a reminder that winter is still with us.  I would like to extend a sincere thank you to our Facilities team for their hard work over the past few weeks with snow removal and campus clean-up, as well as to the Town DPW for their efforts throughout the community and around the school.  Their work is not easy, and we are fortunate to have such dedicated professionals committed to keeping our campus safe and accessible.  We truly appreciate all they do.

February brings one of our most anticipated events, the CPS Multicultural Festival!  The festival will take place on Wednesday, February 4, which is also an early release day.  During the school day, students will visit the fair to enjoy cultural exhibits, a scavenger hunt, and hands-on crafts and activities.  Families are invited to join us after dismissal for a potluck celebration in the Corey Dining Room, featuring delicious food and opportunities to connect as a community.  We look forward to celebrating the many cultures that make Carlisle such a vibrant place.

Many of our students and families will be taking part in the annual Concord Carlisle Lunar New Year Community Celebration this month. The event will be taking place on Saturday, February 7 from 2:00-4:00 PM at Concord Carlisle High School. Students from Carlisle, Concord, and CCHS are actively preparing their performances. To get a better idea of the event, please take a look at the event poster and promotional video.

This year’s addition of the Makerspace to our STEAM programming has been an exciting success.  In partnership with the Carlisle Education Foundation (CEF), the district launched an after-school Makerspace that offers students engaging, hands-on learning experiences.  Courses such as woodworking, ceramics, sewing, and robotics encourage creativity while building skills in engineering, design, and problem-solving.  CEF has helped connect us with talented local community members to serve as instructors, and the sessions, offered three times a year in the fall, winter, and spring, have been highly attended.  We are deeply grateful to the Carlisle Education Foundation for its vision and ongoing support in bringing this program to life.

I am also delighted to share some wonderful news about one of our own educators.  Congratulations to Grade 8 Language Arts teacher Marcella Pixley, who has received the 2026 Sydney Taylor Book Award for best middle school novel for her book Neshama.  This award is given by the Association of Jewish Libraries for outstanding books for children and teens that authentically portray the Jewish experience.  We are proud of Ms. Pixley and grateful to have such talented educators in our community.

As a reminder, Wednesday, February 4 is an early release day for faculty and staff professional development.  February vacation begins on Monday, February 16, and school will be closed for the entire week.  We look forward to welcoming students back on Monday, February 23.

Finally, in the spirit of community fun, we invite all students and staff to show their Patriots pride on Friday, February 6 by wearing Patriots gear or red, white, and blue as we cheer the team on in the Super Bowl.

Have a wonderful month and GO PATS!

Warm regards,

Jim O’Shea

Superintendent

BACK UP PLANS

Please make sure you have back up plans that your child is aware of, should after school activities suddenly be canceled. During cancelations or emergencies, the Main Office phones are usually busy and not available to call home or relay messages. Please go over with your child ahead of time what they should do in case their activity is canceled.

CHILD FIND NOTICE

Carlisle Public Schools, is dedicated to meeting the needs of all students. In accordance with IDEA and Massachusetts Chapter 71B, all public schools must provide special education for children determined to be educationally disabled.  The law requires a school district to identify such children from age 3 to 21 years of age and applies to all children, including those in non-public schools, pre-schools, and hospital settings.  In addition, children of migrant or homeless families are also entitled to public education.  The Carlisle Public Schools is responsible for students from age 3 throughout their 8th grade year.

Parents or service providers with concerns that a child might have an educationally disabling condition are encouraged to contact Student Support Services.  Carlisle Public Schools will provide parent support and arrange for the screening and evaluation of any student who is not able to progress effectively in general education due to a disability.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION for 2026-2027

Each year at this time the Carlisle Public School (CPS) compiles a list of children who will be eligible for kindergarten for the following September. By creating a list of kindergarten families, we ensure that those who wish to be informed of the upcoming kindergarten registration meetings, screenings or other special events will be on our list. Please keep in mind that children must have turned 5 years of age by September 1, 2026, in order to join the 2026-2027 kindergarten class.

Please click this Google Form link CPS K Census 2026-2027 and complete it below by Friday, February 27, 2026. If you have more than one student eligible for kindergarten, please fill out a form for each child.

If your child is eligible for kindergarten but you are making different plans, and/or have any questions/concerns, please contact the CPS Register Linda Cavallo-Murphy at 978-369-6550 or lcavallomurphy@carlisle.k12.ma.us.
