Dear Carlisle Families,
Autumn has arrived in all its beauty - apples, pumpkins, autumnal leaves, cross country, field hockey, 5th Grade softball and so much more. Be sure to check the district calendar on our website for upcoming field hockey games and cross country meets and all our other activities so you can cheer on and support our students in all of their endeavors. The field hockey team is looking to build off its first tie and goal of the season this month while the cross country team prepares for its invitational meet to be held at Great Brook Farm on October 21. You’ll also find information on the district website calendar about the wide range of clubs that are now underway.
The 6th grade students have a busy month ahead with Outdoor Education scheduled for the week of October 13 (Indigenous Peoples’ Day) and the Spaghetti Supper, scheduled for Thursday, October 23. From October 14-17, students in grade 6 will be attending Outdoor Education in Groton, MA. Students will be staying overnight and taking part in a variety of hands-on activities focused on the natural world.
Of course, October in Carlisle wouldn’t be complete without the annual Spaghetti Supper scheduled for Thursday, October 23 - It’s time to Ciao Down! This year is especially meaningful, as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of this beloved tradition. For five decades, our 6th graders, their families, and the community have gathered to share a meal, raise funds, and honor the community and spirit of Carlisle Public School. Don’t forget to purchase your tickets online for this always well-attended event.
Later in the month, we also look forward to another cherished tradition, the Halloween parade, scheduled for Thursday, October 31.
While it may feel like the school year has just begun, September and October are key months in our budgeting process, and we are already hard at work planning for the 2026-2027 school year. The first hearing of our proposed budget will be held on Wednesday, November 12 at the School Committee meeting
Throughout October, there are additional dates to keep in mind. School will be closed on Monday, October 13, in observance of Indigenous People’s Day. We will have an early release on Thursday, October 23, and no school on Friday, October 24, for parent conferences at the elementary level and professional development for middle school teachers.
This season also brings significant religious and cultural holidays and observances in both October and early November. We recognize the challenges that can come with students missing school for these important occasions and want to assure you that we will do everything possible to provide support. Please reach out directly to your child’s teachers to make them aware of any cultural, religious or family events that you may have coming up. To assist families, I am sharing our District Policy on Accommodations for Religious and Cultural Observances. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns as we want to ensure that school does not become an issue when families are contemplating their holiday and cultural observations.
Finally, it was great to have so many folks turn out for our ‘Listening Session for Jewish Families’, last week. It was such a special opportunity to listen to and learn from our friends, neighbors, and community members, and in turn we are looking to learn more from all of you about your experiences and your child or children’s experiences in the Carlisle School Community. To that end, I am working with our DEICAC on developing and sharing a ‘Belonging Survey’ for families, very similar to the one we had our students fill out in the spring of last year. Please keep your eyes open for that, as we will be sharing it in the days to come.
Warm Regards,
Jim O’Shea
Superintendent

CHILD FIND NOTICE
Carlisle Public Schools, is dedicated to meeting the needs of all students. In addition, children of migrant or homeless families are also entitled to public education. The Carlisle Public Schools is responsible for students from age 3 throughout their 8th grade year.
