3rd Grade CityX InventionsPosted by Maya Bery at 3/21/2017
Over the course of six weeks, third grade students worked on the CityX project, an interdisciplinary collaboration between the library, art, and engineering. Students were challenged to pick a problem faced by a resident of CityX, an imaginary planet settled by humans. They then had to come up with an original idea, sketch their invention, turn it into a clay model, and finally, use Tinkercad to create a 3D model. Their inventions were then printed by Mrs. Lamere and Mrs. McCann using the new 3D printers in the Engineering Room. We wrapped up with a parent showcase, but students are also working with Ms. Bery to record themselves talking about their inventions.

Over the course of many weeks, first graders talked about the parts of a story arc - beginning, middle, and end, and identified each part in read-alouds done by Ms. Bery. Next, they learned how to use Scratch Jr., a free coding app on the iPad. They used Scratch Jr. to create their own original stories. Here are their final projects!

Kindergarten Nursery Rhyme BooksPosted by Maya Bery at 12/22/2016
Our wonderful kindergarten students spent several weeks learning different nursery rhymes during their library class. We practiced singing the songs and identifying rhyming words, then students illustrated a line from a nursery rhyme. Their illustrations were then put together using the Book Creator app to combine their voices with their images. Check out their nursery rhyme books!
